From port warehouses to the Asiatique Riverfront, Bangkok

What were wood and fish warehouses for centuries has been transformed in an entertainment area with shops, bars, restaurants, life music and a carnival fair. This is a perfect place to spend an evening. The walking promenade alongside the Chao Phraya River provides fantastic views of the Bangkok skyline.

It can get crowded here. Besides the Asiatique Riverfront itself, is it also the starting point for many evening dinner cruises and it is home of the most famous lady boy cabaret of Bangkok, The Calypso. At the end of the evening, there are no worries to find a taxi, there is a professionally organised taxi meter company at fair official rates.

Voor eeuwen waren dit hout en visserskaaien en dit is nu getransformeerd in een uitgangsgebied met winkels, bars, restaurants, life muziek en een kermis. Het is de perfecte plaats om je avond door te brengen. De wandelpromenade langs de Chao Phraya Rivier biedt fantastische zichten op de skyline van Bangkok. 

Het kan hier wel druk worden. Naast de Asiatique Riverfront zelf, is dit ook het afvaartpunt voor vele diner riviercruises en de thuisbasis van het beroemdste lady boy cabaret van Bangkok, The Calypso. Aan het einde van de avond geen zorgen voor een taxi, er is een professioneel georganiseerde taximeter stand met eerlijke officiële tarieven.

What you should know before visiting Miami Downtown and the Financial District

Miami is not the safest city of the US so be careful where you go when visiting the downtown area. It is also a beautiful city with a fantastic skyline. We recommend to take the metro to Brickell Station and walk northwards via Brickell Avenue. You will pass skyscrapers and cross the Miami River. Many of the buildings are modern, have unique designs and colourful patterns. Via the Biscayne Blvd Way you make your way to the Bayfront Park. Here Kristel is posing with one of the marine mammal pieces of art.

A bit more north you see the Bayside Market Place and the American Airlines Arena, the home of the Miami Heat Basketball team. Across the road you see the Freedom Tower. If you want to continue walking you still can visit the Trinity Cathedral which is currently being renovated. As tourist not knowing the area, we would not recommend to go more north or west from this point. Just going a few blocks more west could bring you into trouble. Stay certainly away from the Overtown Metro station area.

Miami is niet de meest veilige stad van de Verenigde Staten, dus raden we je aan voorzichtig te zijn bij het bezoek aan de binnenstad. Miami is echter wel een mooie stad met prachtige skyline. We raden je aan de metro te nemen tot aan Brickell en ga dan noordwaarts via Brickell Avenue. Je wandelt dan langs de wolkenkrabbers en over de Miami Rivier. Vele gebouwen zijn modern, hebben unieke ontwerpen en kleurrijke patronen. Via de Biscayne Boulevard Way ga je verder naar het Bayfront Park. Hier poseert Kristel even met een zeezoogdieren kunstwerkje. 

Iets noordelijker zie je de Bayside Market Place en de American Airlines Arena, het mekka van de Miami Heat basketbal team. Aan de andere kant van de straat zie je de Freedom Tower. Als je nog wat wil wandelen kan je verder noordwaarts de Trinity kathedraal vinden. Als toerist doe je er best aan niet verder noordwaarts of westwaarts van dit punt te gaan. Gewoon enkele blokken verder kan je in de problemen komen. Blijf weg uit de Overtown metro station buurt..

Jumeirah Beach Corniche, the most beautiful skyline in the world

We heard Jumeirah beach is the place to be, the top beach of Dubai, but we found a better place with a similar sounding name, Jumreirah Beach CORNICHE. It is on the other side of the Dubai coast line in the direction of Bur Dubai. It has a paved area where you can ride a bike or skate. There is a curved pier, ideal for a walk and an unbelievable view of the white sand beach with the skyline of the Dubai Financial District. The beach has a large white sand area with nicely placed palm trees. We went back a second time to the Jumeirah Beach Corniche, hired two sun beds and an umbrella. The public beach was quiet, the sea calm, and we enjoyed reading a book. What a skyline, we have never seen a beach like this before. This Dubai attraction is free of charge, you should not miss this opportunity.

We hadden gehoord dat Jumeirah Beach het meest populaire strand is van Dubai, maar wij hebben iets beter gevonden met een soortgelijke naam, Jumeirah Beach CORNICHE. Het is aan de andere kant van de Dubai kustlijn in de richting van Bur Dubai. Dit strand heeft een verhard gedeelte waarop je kan fietsen en rolschaatsen. Op een in zee draaiende pier kan je wandelen, en je hebt er een ongelooflijk zicht op het zandstrand met de skyline van het financieel district. Op zeer zorgvuldig gekozen plaatsen staan sierlijke palmbomen. We gingen voor een tweede keer terug naar Jumeirah Beach Corniche en huurden twee zonnebedden en een parasol. Het publieke strand was rustig, de zee kalm, en we genoten van het lezen van onze boeken. Wat een zicht, wat een skyline, zo’n strand hebben we nog nooit gezien. Dit strand kan gratis worden bezocht, mis deze mogelijkheid niet, het is top..
