What you should know before visiting Miami Downtown and the Financial District

Miami is not the safest city of the US so be careful where you go when visiting the downtown area. It is also a beautiful city with a fantastic skyline. We recommend to take the metro to Brickell Station and walk northwards via Brickell Avenue. You will pass skyscrapers and cross the Miami River. Many of the buildings are modern, have unique designs and colourful patterns. Via the Biscayne Blvd Way you make your way to the Bayfront Park. Here Kristel is posing with one of the marine mammal pieces of art.

A bit more north you see the Bayside Market Place and the American Airlines Arena, the home of the Miami Heat Basketball team. Across the road you see the Freedom Tower. If you want to continue walking you still can visit the Trinity Cathedral which is currently being renovated. As tourist not knowing the area, we would not recommend to go more north or west from this point. Just going a few blocks more west could bring you into trouble. Stay certainly away from the Overtown Metro station area.

Miami is niet de meest veilige stad van de Verenigde Staten, dus raden we je aan voorzichtig te zijn bij het bezoek aan de binnenstad. Miami is echter wel een mooie stad met prachtige skyline. We raden je aan de metro te nemen tot aan Brickell en ga dan noordwaarts via Brickell Avenue. Je wandelt dan langs de wolkenkrabbers en over de Miami Rivier. Vele gebouwen zijn modern, hebben unieke ontwerpen en kleurrijke patronen. Via de Biscayne Boulevard Way ga je verder naar het Bayfront Park. Hier poseert Kristel even met een zeezoogdieren kunstwerkje. 

Iets noordelijker zie je de Bayside Market Place en de American Airlines Arena, het mekka van de Miami Heat basketbal team. Aan de andere kant van de straat zie je de Freedom Tower. Als je nog wat wil wandelen kan je verder noordwaarts de Trinity kathedraal vinden. Als toerist doe je er best aan niet verder noordwaarts of westwaarts van dit punt te gaan. Gewoon enkele blokken verder kan je in de problemen komen. Blijf weg uit de Overtown metro station buurt..

The glamour of 5th Avenue and the beach of Naples, Florida

5th Avenue in Naples is the glamour street for shopping. There are many exclusive shops and the houses are just amazing. We were surprised that many shops offered affordable clothing. You must have a look at these enormous houses, they are almost castles. In the Naples Bay area you find so many beautiful mansions again at reasonable prices. Maybe a good city to retire, good weather and top beach location.

The evening was making its entrance when we arrived at the beach. Luckily we still had some light. Evening fishers stood at the shore line hoping to catch there dinner. If not, they will have to be the Red Lobster restaurant. The natural born fishers were also present, large groups of pelicans observered the sea, hoping to steal the catch from the fishers. Just a few more pictures of some birds and of we go to the restaurant. This was our last Florida Beach article, hope you found it interesting.

5th Avenue is de glitter winkelstraat van Naples, Florida. Er zijn vele exclusieve winkels en de huizen spreken tot de verbazing. We waren positief verrast dat vele zaken ook betaalbare kledij aanboden. De enorme vrijstaande woningen lijken soms op kleine kasteeltjes. Aan de baai van Naples met zijn vele vertakkingen vind je heel mooie villa's tegen soms redelijke prijzen. Misschien is dit een leuke plaats om op pensioen te gaan, mooi weer en prachtige strandlocatie. 

De avond viel toen we op het strand aankwamen. Gelukkig was er toch nog wat licht. Avondvissers stonden aan het water in de hoop hun avondeten te vangen, als het niet lukt gaan ze waarschijnlijk naar het Red Lobster restaurant. De echte natuurlijke vistalenten kijken van op afstand toe, grote groepen pelikanen observeren de zee, ze gaan het zeker niet nalaten de vangst van de vissers te stelen. We nemen nog enkele foto's en gaan naar ons restaurant. Dit was het laatste Florida strandartikel uit de reeks, we hopen dat je het interessant vond..

This article is part of our series about beaches in South West Florida. The area is know for shell that you find near the water line. At the end of Hickory Boulevard, you have to cross a bridge over the waterway connecting the Gulf with Estero Bay. Here we saw a few people canoeing.

This is an ideal spot to park your car and walk into the green dunes. After a 5 minutes walk you are on the Bonita Dog Beach. It is lots of fun to see the dogs play. A nice place to stop before you go to Fort Myers Beach or Sanibel.

Dit artikel maakt deel uit van onze stranden reeks in Zuid West Florida. De regio staat gekend voor zijn vele schelpen die je kan vinden aan de waterlijn. Aan het einde van de Hickory Boulevard heb je een brug over de Estero Bay waterverbinding met de Gulf van Mexico. Hier zagen we enkele mensen kanoën. 

Dit is een ideale plaats om je wagen te parkeren en de groene duinen in te wandelen. Na een paar minuten kom je aan het Bonita hondenstrand. Het is heel leuk de honden met elkaar te zien spelen. Een goede stopplaats als je op weg bent naar Fort Myers Beach of Sanibel..

Sanibel Island with the fantastic Causeway Beach area

Sanibel is an island on the West side of Florida. There is only one way on and off the island by car. It is the Causaway Bay Bridge for which you have to pay a toll of about $7. It is well worth the visit.

Our first stop is at the Causeway Bay Beach, just behind the bridge. Our intention was to take a picture of the curved bridge, as we did. But we got a real bonus, this small beach area was so beautiful with all the shells and clear water that we walked there for an hour.

Our second and last stop on the island was the Sanibel Lighthouse beach area. This is the main beach location. It is rather touristic and you have to pay to park your car. At the parking lot, you can go directly on the beach or walk via a dune forest to the lighthouse.

Sanibel is een eiland aan de west kant van Florida. De enige manier om per auto Sanibel te bereiken is via de Causeway Bay brug, waarvoor je een tol bijdrage van ongeveer 7$ dient te betalen. Het is zeker de moeite om het eiland te bezoeken. 

Onze eerste halte is aan het Causeway Bay strand, net achter de brug. We hadden de bedoeling een foto van de gebogen brug te maken en dit lukte ook. We kregen echter een grote bonus, dit kleine strand met zijn schelpen en kristal helder water was zo mooi dat we er een uur bleven. 

Onze tweede en laatste stop op het eiland was het hoofdstrand aan de vuurtoren. Dit is zeer toeristisch en je dient te betalen voor de parking. Vanaf het parkeerterrein kan je rechtstreeks het strand opwandelen of door de bossen naar de vuurtoren..

Fort Myers Beach similar like Florida Keys but at Estero Bay

Fort Myers Beach is a small island located between Estero Bay and San Carlos Bay. The island is connected to the main State of Florida by two bridges and one road, the Estero Boulevard. The complete coast line has a wide sand stroke with private beachfront homes, what a view the residents have here.

At the most northern end of Fort Myers Beach you find hotels, shops, restaurants and the pier. If you want to park your car in this area, you will have to pay for a full or half day. This is a region where you can find shells, some of them almost as big as your foot. At the pier we saw a lonely Pelican. In our opinion a good beach location for a day trip.

Fort Myers Beach is een klein eiland dat gelegen is tussen Estero Bay en San Carlos Bay. Het eiland is verbonden met het vaste land van Florida via twee bruggen en één grote hoofdstraat, de Estero Boulevard. De volledige kustlijn heeft een brede witte zandstrook waar mooie huisjes langs gebouwd zijn, wat een perfect zicht voor de bewoners. 

Op het meest noordelijk punt van Fort Myers Beach vind je hotels, winkels, restaurants en de pier. Als je hier wil parkeren moet je betalen voor een halve of volledige dag. Dit is een gebied waar je veel schelpen kan vinden, sommige zo groot als je voet. Bij de pier zagen we een eenzame pelikaan. Naar onze mening een goede strandlocatie voor een daguitstap..
