Speciality Restaurant Portofino on the Brilliance of the Seas cruise ship

As the name Portofino already reveals, this is an Italian restaurant. The restaurant interior was rather simple with wooden chairs, but they were comfortable. A large choice of meat and fish was available on the menu, as well for the starters as the main courses. Our preferred plated were Tuna Carpaccio, Beef Carpaccio, Tuna steak, Oso Bucco, the chocolate strawberries and the Tiramisu. The quality of the restaurant was good but incomparable to what Celebrity cruises is offering for similar speciality restaurant cover fees. While enjoying our dinner, the ship sets course to the country of Oman.

Zoals de naam reeds laat vermoeden, dit is een Italiaans restaurant. Het interieur is wat simpel met houten stoelen maar ze waren bekleed en comfortabel. Er was een ruime keuze in vlees en vis, zowel in voor- als hoofdgerechten. Onze voorkeur ging uit naar tonijn Carpaccio, rundcarpaccio, tonijn steak, Oso Bucco, chocolade aardbeien en de Tiramisu. De kwaliteit van het restaurant was redelijk maar totaal niet te vergelijken met wat Celebrity Cruises aanbied tegen dezelfde extra kost voor zijn specialiteiten restaurants. Terwijl we van ons avondeten genieten is het schip naar het land Oman aan het varen..

Restaurant Il Boccone D’oro, good quality food in Civitavecchia

Being in Civitavecchia for the first time, it was not easy to find a good restaurant. We saw many places but they were not convincing. On our walk we passed by de Piazza Calamatta where this fine Restaurant is located. It has a nice sounding name, impossible to understand for foreigners who don’t speak Italian, it is called “Il Boccone D’oro di Popescu Aura Gabriela”. We made reservations but this was not necessary. We were surprised the restaurant only opened at 19:30, in Belgium restaurants are open at 18:00. The food was really nice, we had the Carpaccio, a pasta with small lobsters which were langoustines, and veal in a creamy lemon sauce. The wine card did not exist but you had a choice from the shelf. When we asked for a Barolo, they did not have it but they brought us a good bottle from their private stock. For all people staying over for one night to catch a cruise, this is a restaurant we can recommend.

Daar we voor de eerste keer in Civitavecchia waren, was het niet eenvoudig een goed restaurant te kiezen. We hebben vele plaatsen bezocht maar niets kon ons echt overtuigen. Op onze wandeling kwamen we dit restaurant tegen op Piazza Calamatta. Het heeft een leuk klinkende naam die voor niet Italiaans sprekende toeristen moeilijk te begrijpen is: “Il Boccone D’oro di Popescu Aura Gabriela”. We reserveerden maar dit was niet noodzakelijk. Tot onze verbazing ging het restaurant pas om 19:30 open. In België en Nederland zijn de restaurants vroeger open. Het eten was echt goed, we kozen de Carpaccio, een pasta met kleine kreeftjes die langoustines waren, en kalfsvlees in een romige limoen saus. Er was geen wijnkaart en je kon kiezen van de plank. Toen we vroegen of ze een Barolo hadden was het antwoord negatief, maar we kregen een fles te koop aangeboden uit de privé kelder. Voor mensen die een nachtje in Civitavecchia verblijven alvorens een cruise aan te vangen is dit een restaurant dat we kunnen aanbevelen..

Celebrity Silhouette Tuscan Grill, excellent Italian Restaurant

When we cruise with Celebrity, we always enjoy the speciality restaurants. On the Silhouette there newest ship, they have several speciality restaurants. At first glance a grill restaurant is normally good quality food, no high standards. Boy we were proved wrong. The Tuscan Grill is most likely our best Italian restaurant ever. The restaurant has spectacular views on the back of the ship. We had a window table and could enjoy the sun set. The food was excellent, we selected meat from the menu this evening with an antipasti amuse from the chef, a beef Carpaccio with octopus and dried tomatoes, a ravioli with mushrooms and white truffle oil, the filet mignon with a Barolo sauce and a special Crème Brulée with red fruits. The sommelier coming from Croatia recommended a very good bottle of Sondraia. A super evening like so many on Celebrity cruises.

Als we op cruise gaan met Celebrity genieten we altijd van de specialiteiten restaurants. Op de Silhouette, hun nieuwste schip, zijn er verschillende beschikbaar. Van een grill restaurant verwacht je normaal goede kwaliteit maar niets hoogstaand. Ons verwachtingspatroon lag veel te laag en wij zijn toch zeer kritisch. Het Tuscan Grill Restaurant is hoogstwaarschijnlijk ons beste Italiaans restaurant ooit. Het restaurant heeft een spectaculair uitzicht op de achterkant van het schip. Aan ons tafeltje aan het raam hebben we dan ook genoten van de zonsondergang. Het eten was uitstekend, we kozen voor vlees die avond met een antipasti amuse van de chef, een rundcarpaccio met octopusschijfjes en zongedroogde tomaten, een ravioli met champignons en witte truffelolie, de filet pur met Barolo saus, en een speciale Crème Brulée met rode vruchten. De vrouwelijke Sommelier uit Croatië raadde ons een zeer goede fles Sondraia wijn aan. Een super avond zoals we gewoon zijn op Celebrity Cruises..

The GOC 2011 has started, where to eat?

You can always find something to eat in the Maritim Hotel or on the site of the GOC in the Liederhalle. The biggest dance festival in the world with more than 5.000 couples participating is attracting many visitors who all need to eat. Many of the couples are Italian and just in front of the Liederhalle in Stuttgart, you find Restaurant Vinum who serves good Italian food and wine. The terrace of very cosy and the food is good as you can see on the pictures.

Je kan altijd iets vinden om te eten in het Maritim Hotel of op de site van de GOC zelf. Het grootste dansfestival ter wereld met meer dan 5.000 deelnemende paren trekt ook veel bezoekers die allen moeten eten. Vele van de paren zijn Italianen en juist voor de Liederhalle in Stuttgart, vind je het Italiaans restaurant Vinum dat goed eten en wijn serveert. Het terras is zeer gezellig en het eten lekker zoals je kan zien op de foto’s.
