Central Station Atocha, Madrid

Atocha is the biggest train station of Madrid and opened in 1851 which makes it also the oldest one. It has a very nice steel construction with underneath it a tropical garden. The garden has ponds with turtles. The plants and trees in the tropical garden are enormous. It's amazing how they can maintain this in such a state.

On March 11 2004, there was a terrorist attack in Atocha train station. 191 people were killed on that day. We have never been to a train station where the security is as visible as here.
