100.000 Buddha statues in the Longmen Caves, Luoyang

We did not know what to expect from the Longmen Caves but we were surprised. Taking a boat trip on the Yi River clearly shows that the full mountain contains caves, holes and statues.

In each part of the rock formation holes were carved and inside them there is a little Buddha. The middle section of the mountain, with the staircase, holds several statues up to 15m height. The Faces of each Buddha have a different expression ranging from peaceful smiling to tense fighter spirit.

  9. Yes, indeed, a great place. I remember when I first saw the great statue of Buddha, I was speechless. Too bad I noticed on images from that place people cannot see the exact scale of the statues
